When you’re vacationing in Cleveland, check out the largest performing arts center outside of New York. PlayhouseSquare hosts over 1,000 annual events, drawing in over one million visitors per year. The performing arts center features five remarkable theatres. Broadway stars, musicians, comedians, and opera singers have all graced the stages at PlayhouseSquare. Discover the amazing events this summer, and drive your rental car to Cleveland’s popular entertainment destination.
Rent (May 30 – Jun 1): For the 15th consecutive year, Playhouse Square will collaborate with local programs and Cleveland students in order to recreate this award-winning production at the Ohio Theatre. The story of Rent is about young adults who are trying to find their voice in New York City during the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the ‘90s. The plot resonates with audience members of all ages, and the music score is compelling.
Beck (Jun 19): If you want to see a rock show in Cleveland, you better be in town during the middle of June. The musician Beck will be tearing up the stage with his funky tunes at the State Theatre. With his ubiquitous smash hit “Loser,” Beck rose to fame during the explosion of alternative rock in the ‘90s. Following a six-year hiatus, the rocker unveiled his new album Morning Phase earlier this year. Expect to hear a set list that combines both fan favorites and new songs off his latest album.
Jerry Seinfeld (Jul 18): Are you looking for laughs during your stay in Ohio? On July 18th, visit the State Theatre to see the classic stand-up routine of comedian Jerry Seinfield. Jerry’s signature performance consists of him being able to joke about the little things in life.
