Ohio’s First Casino

A New Era has begun in the state of Ohio.  Last night Cleveland’s Horseshoe Casino opened to a great deal of fanfare.  Patrons began lining up several hours before the official opening and were treated to quite a video show outside.  Early projections tell us that 5 million gamblers will visit the casino in the first year.

It is certainly going to be a boost to the economy, if for no other reason than to keep the gambling dollars in Ohio.  Surrounding states such as Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Michigan, and Kentucky are expected to feel the pinch as gamblers decided to stay in state and gamble.  Will the convenience of a close to home casino cause a problem?  Depending on who you talk to, yes and no.  If you are someone you know has a problem there are several resources available to you. The Ohio Council for Problem Gamblers has a website  www.ncpgambling.org .

We certainly hope that those that visit the new casino, do so responsibly, and that the entire venture proves to be positive for both Cleveland and Ohio. For information about the casino http://www.horseshoe.com/info/cleveland/about.html
